SX-300 Group Meeting (Minutes)

Saturday 7 Nov 2009

Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport (JGG)

The semi-annual meeting of the SX-300 Group was held at Williamsburg VA 5 thru 8 Nov and was hosted by President Tuck McAtee with help from his wife Ann, Daughter Molly and son Patrick. Members attending: Doug Poli, Bill and Diane Johns, Keith and Linda Phillips, Heinz and Karen Pierre, Jim and Gwenn Cianci, Tuck and Ann McAtee and Mike Smith. Also attending were Tony and Brenda Crawford from Spruce Creek Fly-In and Buzz Rich from Williamsburg.

We stayed at the Williamsburg Hospitality House. Transportation for the entire stay was provided by the McAtee family. The William and Mary College Campus and Merchants Square were within walking distance of the hotel. Tuck planned a full schedule and fortunately we had perfect weather for the entire time. The Jamestown Museum, replicas of the settler’s stockade, Indian camp and the boats that brought the first settlers to America were of great interest to everyone. The Williamsburg tour with speeches and live performances that re-enact colonial days during the revolution made you feel like you were living in that time period….As always we had  good fellowship and learned a lot about our history.

On Saturday morning we had a 6 ship flying tour of the area with Tuck leading and giving us a running commentary of the historical land marks. Afterwards we flew 3 Young Eagles in a 3 ship formation.

Our business meeting was held in the PM at the local FBO. The following are decisions/subjects discussed:

  • Harry Hinkley was voted Vice President
  • Our next meeting will be at Spruce Creek just before Sun-N-Fun.
  • We agreed that some of our landing gear problems are self imposed and as a group we need better understanding of the system, therefore we will attempt to have a class on the gear system complete with schematics at our next meeting.
  • The nose gear steering is another area that needs better understanding. It can be easily broken with improper towing.
  • Engine out landing procedures have been tested and practiced by some but not every one in the group is familiar with the procedure and techniques. This procedure needs to be incorporated in the POH. Tuck agreed to do this.
  • We had a discussion on fuel leaning procedures which is an area that needs better understanding by our members.
  • The landing gear trunions initiative has finally come to fruition and over half of the fleet has been fitted with the new ones. All of us that got new trunions  owe Bill Johns $15 for shipping….Although some of the early ones may have been shipped by air, in which case you owe him considerably more.
  • Jim Cianci has agreed to take over the web site from Bea Rempe, also we need to provide current information to Jim so he can update the Site.

2010 dues are now payable to our treasurer, Jim Vitale. We have approximately $200 on hand.
